fools and tricksters from around the world

About the show:

From telling lies to creating the world, from tricking the guards in the most brilliant way to failing to do the simplest thing – tricksters are capable of it all, as long as it’s something you least expect. For this show, we invite three performers coming from different storytelling traditions. They are challenged to dig into their cultures, to find stories of fools and tricksters that speak to them the most. Come and enjoy this display of different stories, which in the end make us remember that we are all human, no matter where we come from.

Bios:

Raffi Feghali is a theater maker, peacebuilding consultant, and trainer working mostly in Europe, USA, and the Middle East while being based between Amsterdam and Beirut. He draws on the meeting point of improvisational theater (improv) and storytelling (especially that rooted in the “hakawati” tradition) in order to inspire his performing, writing, directing/devising, radio dramas, sound design, and music making. He is a member of the Lincoln Theater Center Directors Lab 2018.

Marion Laville is French performer and educator based in Amsterdam, with a background in music, drama, and storytelling. Her path has always moved between teaching and the performing arts, two parts of her life that constantly feed each other. With over 10 years of experience, she started as a primary school teacher and now works as a secondary school music teacher and a drama educator for children. Teaching has taught Marion the value of presence, play and listening, all central to storytelling. Alongside this, she studied drama at university, trained as an harpist at the Conservatory of Chalon sur Saône, and she is a member of the Loom Storytelling Collective. Her work combines music, movement, and story to connect people, spark emotion, and invite imagination.
