WHO ARE YOU WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING? by Soula Notos (in English)
Soula Notos is a comedian, actress, storyteller and theatre maker. She finished theatre school with the absurd western Doctor, where do cowgirls dream about? She performed in various plays: like her own story Heimwee (Homesick), Radio Amigu (with Wijnand Stomp) and De Pensionado's (at the Parade). She is a member of the Dutch Comedy Collective Comedyhuis and she is a regular storyteller at Mezrab. She made her Dutch national television début in 2011 with her comedy minute on the Dutch talk show The Half Moon. She was also a host of the tv-programme Gonzo.
Now she has written her first long theatrical piece in which she tells expressive, energetic, poetic stories full of self-mockery about growing up with different labels and how to deal with them without losing your mind.
"People always ask me: 'where does your name come from? Greece? Oh, were you born there? No? Well, if you were born here, even if it is in Goirle, then you are normal Dutch, gewoon Nederlands.' Sounds great, but am I? In what story did I live when you weren't looking? What stories was I listening to? What were they telling me at home before I went to sleep?"
"Zonder franje, recht op haar publiek. Een verhaal delen met mensen die daar naar luisteren, dat is alles." - de Volkskrant (over Heimwee)
“A no-frills play. Straightforward to her audience. Sharing a story with people who listen to it, that’s all.” – the Volkskrant about Homesick.
